Age Policy as of Fall 2026
Beginning with the Fall 2026 season, US Youth Soccer (USYS), US Club Soccer and AYSO have decided to transition from calendar-year age groups to a seasonal age-group system running from August 1 to July 31.
This national change was made based on extensive feedback, data, and expert input to better align players with their school-grade peers, with the goal of inclusivity and increased participation.
Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) will adopt this change starting in Fall 2026, with age groups outlined below. As a result, some players may find themselves in a different age group than in previous seasons. See USYS policy here.

Considerations for SHFC Players:

Players are encouraged to try out with their grade-level peers where eligible, based on birthdate range above.

As with previous years, players can “play up” with players in an older age range based on ability and development.

Returning players will remain with their current team whenever possible, with changes considered based on player development and team needs.
SHFC recognizes that this transition may affect families differently. As we approach Fall 2026, the club will provide ongoing communication and guidance, support families as needed, and allow flexibility where appropriate and permitted by league rule.
