Fall 2018 Champions!

The snow storm ended the fall season for our 21 SHFC teams and we have 7 teams that won new championships with their volunteer coaches.

Top performance goes to coaches Fergus O'Sullivan and Herbert Weltig.  In the spring they brought home the first division 1 championship in SHFC history and they just pulled off the repeat.  They are the top team out of 38 U14 boys teams and led division 1 in offense and defense and clinched one week early with a 4 point lead.  This is a phenomenal performance and one the whole club should take pride in.

Francisco Mendieta, Mark Taylor, and Cedric Smith who won the U14 boys division 4 championship.  This is the second time they have won the division in the past three seasons.

Next goes to super coach John Sutherland who brought home the youngest division 1 championship for his U12 blaze.  They are the best U12 girls team in the league beating out 34 other teams and leading their division in offense.

John also earned the oldest division 1 championship with his varsity Mustangs in their mini season.  The Mustangs are the oldest SHFC team in their 8th year but this was their first year participating in the varsity division and they found themselves the youngest team in division 1.  John beat out 12 varsity squads to win division 1 championship making the Mustangs the top girls team in WYSL.  John will have both teams playing all winter indoors at Chelsea Piers CT with hopes of defending their titles in the spring.

Brad Scheller delivered back to championships for his U10 Red Lions winning division 5 in the spring and now division 4 with only one loss.  This is always a tough task as most teams that move up a division get relegated the next season.  Brad will have his boys participating in the winter indoor season at Chelsea Piers getting ready for the tough division 3 in the spring.

George Papadopoulos, Ken Mackiewicz, and Michael Degen delivered back to back championships as well for the U11 boys Fusion winning their division twice in three seasons while moving up 5 divisions. The Fusion had a perfect 9-0-0 season and led the division in defense with a 28 goal differential!

Super coach Gary Fairley took on the new challenge of training our youngest U9 boys All Reds with the help of assistant coaches Oladipo Ashiru and Aaron Lucchetti.  While most teams had a relaxing summer, the All Reds were out practicing every week in the heat and took division 6 by storm going undefeated.

Great job by our all volunteer coaches tearing up a league run by mostly paid trainers.  All these coaches mentioned above have taken advantage of winter training and this will be a great 4 month opportunity to increase your team's skills.  Contact John Sutherland if you are interested in indoor training space, and if you are not comfortable running indoor practices, we have many coaches who would be happy to show you the ropes.  Have a nice winter and thank you for making your teams and the program great.
