Background Check

For the safety of our program youth and our coaches, all coaches must have current and complete background and sports injury training.

You may not be allowed to coach, obtain a pass, or be on the roster of a SHFC club team without completing and passing the background check and submitting your valid Sideline Sports Doc certificate number. Please review the Coach Registration page carefully, with details on completing the appropriate Sports Injury training and Background check.

It is further recommended that coaches review, understand and agree to the AYSO Safe Haven and Concussion Training available
via the AYSO Tarrytown/SH Site and AYSOU. You can register for free on the AYSO site for a login to use/train on AYSOU.

Prerequisite Coaching Classes

As of July 15, 2022 and starting with the 2022 Fall season, WYSL has aligned Eastern NY Soccer Association to be its sanctioning organization, an entity that will afford our membership different training and competition pathways.

WYSL requires coaches and recommends managers attend and complete a two-hour coach orientation course. This course typically discusses coaching rules and protocols, including schedules, player and coach clearances, referee interaction and age group rules. This course is held monthly at WYSL headquarters in Rye, NY and is free of charge. See the WYSL site for details here.

In addition, new coaches who will be on the sideline and coaching players will be required by the end of their first season to attend United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) coaching diploma course for their team’s age group or higher as required by WYSL (held at various locations). National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) & New York Red Bulls have partnered with WYSL to host the NSCAA 7v7/9v9 and 11v11 Diploma coaching courses.

The NSCAA 7v7/9v9 coaching course is the level 2 certification course. (1 day course, 1 Saturday)

All NEW coaches who coach teams aged U8-U12 must take this licensed course.

The NSCAA 11v11 is the level 3 certification course. (2 day course, 2 Saturdays)
All NEW coaches who coach teams aged U13-U19 must take this licensed course.

NOTE: U8-U12 coach may go directly to the NSCAA 11v11, this would preclude the need to take it later.

All previously licensed coaches are exempt from taking these new required courses.
All new coaches must complete the licensing courses by the Spring of the season the first year they begin coaching.

Please note that many courses have a registration capacity. Register early to guarantee a place.
