Sleepy Hollow Football Club

A New Chapter Begins

After 4 years of solid growth, the board of Sleepy Hollow Football Club (SHFC), knew they were on the verge of something big. The growth of our competitive soccer programs, along with our community's support, has ushered in a new era. The decision was made to charter as a fully realized club, beginning with appeals to the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL).

In May of 2018, SHFC was accepted as a full chartered member of WYSL. Starting in the fall of 2018, SHFC has operated independently of Rivertowns United (RU). We profusely thank RU for their years of support in the wake of our growth and wish them well, while we simultaneously foster a new friendly competition between our two clubs.

SHFC looks forward to fielding as many as 20 competitive teams girls and boys teams from U9 to U17 annually. With SHFC coming out of the shadows of RU, we will be implementing new, exciting uniforms and further promoting our unique team branding, based on our ubiquitous "Horseman" logo, which is so well known in our villages. In addition, we are an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit exempt organization, status 509(a)(2) public charity, so as to maximize our community outreach.

All of this would not be possible without the our volunteers, our local community support, support from the Villages, Schools and Parks of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and our close partnership with AYSO 220, our sister recreation soccer league. All this to bring great soccer, great sportsmanship and physical activity to the over 240 youth engaged in competitive club soccer at SHFC.

A new chapter begins, now...

SHFC History

In 2014, in the wake of the growth of soccer in the US, and built on close to 40 years of soccer tradition in AYSO 220 Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, a new era in local youth soccer began with the formation of Sleepy Hollow Football Club (SHFC).

The new club joined the ranks of the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL), the largest regional soccer organization, which, with multiple divisions of over 17,000 players and more than 650 teams, to offer potential for higher levels of competition for our youth. SHFC fields boys and girls (U9-Varsity) teams through open tryouts, and all of the players continue to be registered with AYSO and coached by trained AYSO volunteers committed to its philosophies, while recognizing that skilled players would benefit from playing on more competitive level.

SHFC originally partnered with Rivertowns United of Ardsley/Dobbs Ferry/Hastings in entering into WYSL. Following the RUFC/AYSO model, all SHFC players are registered in both programs. All coaches benefit from the wealth of resources provided by the WYSL, as well as AYSO’s National Coaching program, the only soccer coach education program in the U.S. that is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education.

With local community support, a newfound momentum for soccer, and support from the Villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, SHFC in partnership with AYSO, continues to stay true to its roots as a volunteer run, youth-centered organization. From its humble beginnings, SHFC has grown from 11 teams in 2014 to 17 in 2017, with over 240 youth engaged in competitive club soccer.

In our first independent season, Fall 2018, SHFC played 21 teams in all age and gender groups and had 7 division champions. In addition, in 2018, SHFC became an approved 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit youth sports organization.
